January was a bit slow --- this is often the case as firms often try to close transactions by the end of the year.
Sunnyvale, CA -- Network Appliance, Inc. NetApp (NASDAQ:NTAP) completed the acquisition of Boston based Onaro, a datacenter automation solution company in a $120 million transaction. It is reported that backers put about $9.5 million in Onaro, which looks like a great return.
Las Vegas NV-- Dialpoint Communications Corporation (OTCBB: DLPC), acquired the assets of South Carolina based Hostigation.com. Dialpoint issued 333,334 shares --- a deal which in another blog I noted was worth $50k in an all stock transaction.
Niagara Falls, ON - Canadian based Vision Online Network was acquired by Deli India based Real Value Hosting. Vision Online Network specializes in Windows based web hosting.
Duluth, GA - Ralph Smith's Fat Jack Hosting Acquired HostMyProxies.com, a proxy website host. HostMyProxies.com is based at an undisclosed location.
Dallas, TX – Affiliated Computer Services, Inc has acquired Syan for approximately $60 million. Syan’s trailing twelve-months revenue was approximately $75 million. The transaction was funded by existing cash on hand. Syan has several large data centers in the UK.
Tempe, AZ - Greenstreet Real Estate Partners acquired the Tempe One (Tempe, AZ) data and call center for $30.3 million.
Edmonton, AB, Canada – California upstart Enacten acquired all of the shares of Edmonton based Alentus Corporation in an all cash transaction. Alentus provides dedicated/managed and shared hosting services. New Commerce Communications (this blogger) represented Alentus in the transaction.
Pittsford, NY - Spider Graphics Corporation and ITX, a web technology and hosting firm merged. The new name is Spider ITX, very creative.
Overland Park, KS - Erickson Solutions Group has bought the client base of Nothing But Net a company that concentrates on Web and e-mail hosting. Hopefully the acquisition will help the Erickson corporate website.
Raleigh, NC - Hosted Solutions has acquired a new data facility, it's second in Charlotte, NC. The site adds 7,600 square feet of floor space.

It’s not often that you find free hosting worth the price you pay for it but maybe this has changed with the advent of a service from 000Webhost
We came across this entirely by accident in actual fact, and were surprised to see their offer of Cpanel hosting with MySQL support, PHP and 100 gigabytes of data transfer along with 250 Mb of storage. On the basis of those figures alone we thought it was worth checking out in more detail.
There is more including POP3 email and SMTP access, unlimited domain names (and yes you can host your own domain name
) plus subdomains, add-on domains and parked domains and the service is entirely AD FREE - yes, no horrible gaudy third party ads to cloud your visitor’s experience when they land on your pages.
There is a Cpanel demo at the site (you don’t get bells and whistles like Fantastico for example) and there are no scripts but despite this, it has most things that a fledgling blogger or webmaster is going to need to get up and running.
In all honesty, the package is pretty impressive. For those who have always held back on setting up their own blog on their own domain for example, there really is no excuse not to give it a try if all you have baulked at in the past has been paying for hosting.
Now, I’ve not tried the service personally and I can’t comment on what support will be like from a free service like this, but let’s be honest here, what have you got to lose?
I think this kind of offer is going to tempt a lot of users of free blogging platforms to jump ship and go it alone. I also think it’s going to attract a lot of people setting up small websites for the first time.
We would love to hear from people who give this one a spin because on the face of it, it looks to be the bargain of the year so far!

dreamhost "offers" Miva shopping cart hosting, but they only have one person
trained in Miva support, so if your store has a problem when that person is gone
- good luck!
My store has been down for almost 3 weeks, and I am in the process of
transferring to a new host.
dreamhost customer service has been extremely slow,
frequently choosing to file my service requests into one person or another's
folder, rather than tell me anything. When I have heard back, I have been given
varying promises of attention and a fix, but nothing has happened, and no one
has bothered to tell me why.
Key to the whole problem is the apparent fact that
dreamhost has not a clue of
what e-commerce is all about. While other hosts might be in a full-blown panic
if their e-commerce sites were down for a couple of hours,
dreamhost is quite
content to allow the situation to go on indefinitely. Very unprofessional in
their approach.
I know of several other
dreamhost Miva sites that are transferring, or have
transfered, to new hosts. So, most likely in the near future they will be
hosting very few Miva sites, and their competence in the area can be expected to
fall even further.
